Did Windows10 Anniversary Update Malfunction your Webcam?
If you have Windows 10 and it works for you, awesome. But let’s not trivialize the majority of people suffering from BSODs and other issues like this on a weekly basis.
After installing the update, Windows no longer allows USB webcams to use MJPEG or H264 encoded streams and is only allowing YUY2 encoding. This causes the freezing issue with most 3rd party hardware.
Microsoft disabled this option with the best of intention, with the Anniversary Update there are new scenarios for applications to be able to access the webcam and the MJPEG or H264 encoding processes could have resulted in duplication of encoding the stream resulting in poor performance, so they limited the input methods to stop this from happening.
and whatever happened afterward is disastrous.. – Windows10 Anniversary Update now reportedly causing certain USB webcams to Malfunction. Yes and it’s true.
Sorry, but what the hell Microsoft is doing now?
No fancy UI and no cool new features, but everything works all the time, nice and stable. The reason I’m not touching Windows 10 and staying with Windows 7 for now (Windows 8.1 sometimes..).
