Split screen UI “in the works”, expected in android N

As we already have Android M which is Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we can only assume that the next Android build will be Android N, but more importantly what kind of features might we be able to expect from the next major build of Android? We suppose anything’s possible right now, but a recent Reddit AMA with the Pixel C team has revealed one potential feature.
The Google Pixel C tablet had recently gone on sale and the team did an AMA to celebrate it. One of the questions asked was about a potential split screen UI for Android, in which Andrew of the team said that,
Google is already working hard on features for Android “N.” He states that split screen functionality is “in the works,” which means that it might be likely we see the feature debut alongside Google’s next version of Android. ,We’re working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know, yesterday. But we’d spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!”
Of course whether or not this makes it in time for Android N (which presumably is due for release in 2016) is a different story. However split screen UIs aren’t exactly new to Android as this is a feature that Samsung has been touting in its Galaxy Note series for a while now, so we suppose it’s not really a stretch to think that Google might eventually “borrow” the idea to use in stock Android.
No doubt this would be a welcome feature given how big our phone screens are these days, but what say you? Does native split screen functionality sound like something you might be interested in?
For those in need of split screen action right now, you can tweak your OS via editing the build.prop to enable it, but do note that this feature is incredibly buggy and hidden for a very good reason.
