Microsoft’s word flow keypad in Android after iOS
For few years, the ability to flow your finger across a smartphone keyboard, instead of tapping on individual letters, was a novelty. Now a days this feature is much more run of the mill and with operating systems other than Android starting to support a feature like this there is some increased competition. Existing market players may be looking at competition from Microsoft in the near future as the tech giant appears to be working on porting their Word Flow keyboard to other operating systems, including Android and iOS.
Firstly, Microsoft appears to be targeting the iOS operating system for the first port of their word flow keyboard outside of the Windows Phone ecosystem. That is based on reports from some Windows Insiders, a source of users willing to test new Microsoft software, who have received inquiry emails about whether they own an iPhone and think the iOS keyboard could be improved upon. Assuming you meet those requirements, Microsoft is willing to provide a preview version of the word flow keyboard to get the feedback.
According the report, Microsoft’s development team indicates in the email that they are planning to make the word flow keyboard available “to other platforms, initiating with iOS.”
Android would be next in line to see the word flow keyboard get ported to the operating system.”
Now, Microsoft continues to pursue a strategy of making their software available on platforms outside of Windows, especially when it comes to mobile devices. This includes tools like their Cortana personal assistant app or the Skype for Android messaging platform will be the main targets.
