SwiftKey acquisition officially confirmed by Microsoft
According to a report, it indicated that Microsoft would be acquiring keyboard app maker SwiftKey. Turns out the rumors were spot on because both Microsoft and SwiftKey have since announced and confirmed the acquisition.
The good news is that Microsoft will continue to develop both the iOS and Android versions of the app. However Microsoft also plans to leverage the AI technology inside SwiftKey (that helps with its predictions) and see how it can be used in other products as well.
According to Microsoft,
Moreover, SwiftKey’s predictive technology aligns with Microsoft’s investments and ambition to develop intelligent systems that can work more on the user’s behalf and under their control.”
It also seems like Microsoft also has plans to explore how they can integrate SwiftKey’s technology with their Word Flow keyboard, which last we heard could possibly be making its debut on iOS as well, although a confirmation and a release date has yet to be set.
That being said, apart from SwiftKey now being a part of Microsoft, it looks like it will be business as usual, at least far as the foreseeable future is concerned. In the meantime for those wondering what the fuss is with SwiftKey, you can go ahead and download the keyboard app via the iTunes App Store or Google Play to enjoy the flow of Swiftkey board technology.
