Google is Killing Google+ Hangouts on Air
Google Hangouts on Air has been dying a slow death, and here’s its coffin.
This service will discontinue September 12. While Hangouts on Air will discontinue, regular hangouts will still be possible (for now at least). However, if you are using Hangouts on Air to live stream, then you will need to make other plans. This is the method by which we have been streaming our discussions since 2012. But now it’s going to get killed.
- Audience platform: Pay-to-play (inc. share ad revenue)
- One-to-one chat: Free
Thus, we need to look for other solutions. There are other solutions to accomplish the same goals. However, these solutions requires capturing the video and audio of the standard Hangouts or some other video conferencing option (i.e. Join Me) and then streaming it to Youtube Live via software such as VMix, Vidblaster, Wirecast etc.
Creatively strategic brands (product, service, movement, and personal brands) that understand this reality will still find ways to build audiences. The others who assume that nothing will change forever and ever will be left behind.
It may be possible Youtube Live may offer an option of inviting other participants in (simulating Hangouts on Air) but if so, they have not made that announcement yet.
