Hide Files & Folders using CMD prompt

This article is about hiding personal files and folders using command prompt as we do not want to share those files and folders with others. So, we can do it without using any third party software. By windows command line, we can do it easily and safely. Once it is hidden, then it cannot be even searched by any way and it also can be regained again when we want it.
We will proceed by illustrating an example of hiding a folder or file or both. So, suppose we have a folder named as “Photos” and a zip file named as “Example.zip” which are stored in Drive “D” and we want to hide it from others.
We have to just follow the steps given below for doing so.
Step 1: Press start button and type CMD and hit enter. By doing this, a command line window will be opened.
Step 2: Now in opened window, just type the command “attrib +s +h D: \Photos” and hit enter. This command is given to hide the folder.
Now you are done, this will hide your folder and no one can see and even search it.
We can see in the above image that the folder named as “Photos” is now hidden.
If we search that folder, it will not be found as we can see in the below image.
Now if we type the same command with path of zip file, then it will hide the zip file too.
The command will be like “attrib +s +h D:\Example.zip”.
Now the zip file also hidden as we can see in the below image.
Unhide it again
Now if you want to unhide the things, you have to type the same command with a little change of “-ve” sign instead of “+ve” sign. By doing this, you will be able to see and access those files and folders again.
After un-hiding files and folders
Thank you for your patience.
I knew how to hide files&folders by windows self. Enter into Control panel, and find Folder Options, for the Hide files and folders, choose DON’T SHOW.. But this option control the all hidden folders&files. Using command prompt seems is a good way to hide single or some specific files or folders.
I tried to using command prompt to hide my picture, but it shows”parameter format is not correct”, I type”attrib +s +h g:pictures”.
Hello,
Actually you forgot to add back slash (\) after colon (:) that is why you got that error.
Just have a look in images of command prompt too.
